Meet Culture Warrior Clarence Calhoun! Clarence is a Logistics Supervisor in Memphis and embodies Pace’s core value to Do the right thing. Clarence is a reliable team leader who puts in the long hours when necessary to Get the job done and to do it right. He is also noted for being forthright with his teammates and Pace’s customers. Both qualities are attributes of our value to Do the right thing.
One of Clarence’s nominators said it best. “I can always trust what he says, and if he doesn’t know he will find out and get back to me,” said the nominator. “He is hardworking and honorable.”
Another nominator stated that Clarence “to my knowledge has never missed a day since he began working at Pace, and he works night and day to see that the job gets done!”

Keeping Pace: Please give us a little insight into your background and/or your life outside of work?
Clarence: I am a family guy, and I spend most of my time with my family. I love sports. My favorite is football.
Keeping Pace: Who or what inspires you?
Clarence: My family inspires me.
Keeping Pace: What does Do the right thing mean to you in the work you do with our teammates and for our customers?
Clarence: Making sure everything is done the correct way. Making sure our team understands what they are doing. Making sure our team is doing the right thing to satisfy our customers. Making sure our customers are happy they chose to work with Pace.
Keeping Pace: What does Do the right thing mean to you outside of working with Pace?
Clarence: My goal is to do the right thing at all times. To show my family good things come from doing the right thing.
Keeping Pace: What makes you happy about your work?
Clarence: My team, dealing with different customers and different people, and [the fact that] you can grow with Pace. I started on the dock, and I worked my way to a supervisor. I’m looking to go even further.
Keeping Pace: What do you find challenging about your work?
Clarence: New tasks in CXT, learning new customers, and finding a way to make sure we are successful. Also, learning how different people operate.
Keeping Pace: What resources do you draw upon to help you?
Clarence: LM scorecard & pre-invoicing. Living in the system.
Keeping Pace: Is there a small anecdote or story you would like to share about your team? This can be heartfelt, funny, or educational!
Clarence: A team member lost his brother; he didn’t have insurance. Besides our heartfelt condolences, our team got together and gave what they could to help.
