CVSA Roadcheck

On June 5-7, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) conducted high-visibility, high-volume inspections of large trucks and buses as part of their International Roadcheck, an annual enforcement initiative.  We are proud to announce that our driver, Randall McCraney of Bessemer, received a full, level-one inspection and passed with flying colors.

Pace’s preparations for this year’s Roadcheck focused on auditing the safety and compliance measures we continuously have in place and ensuring that our drivers were aware of the increased potential for inspections.  Our Safety and Fleet Team was a positive force in making sure the word was out and created bulletins for our drivers and Operations Teams.

An important part of this year’s Roadcheck was verifying the use of the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) and Hours of Service (HOS) compliance. The ELD mandate that became enforceable last year requires drivers to use an electronic logging device (usually on a smartphone) to record their compliance with Hours of Service requirements in place of a paper logbook.

Randall McCraney, our driver who passed the level-one inspection, described his experience as smooth and successful and stated that he felt prepared.  Randall prefers the ELD and described how it streamlines his documentation and is a much simpler method of keeping track of hours while on the road.
