The Pace Foundation is a proud friend and partner to First Light Shelter.
First Light Shelter is a Center for Homeless Women and Children located in downtown Birmingham. It offers the only emergency shelter accepting homeless women and families twenty-four hours a day in the Birmingham area. First Light’s mission is to work with homeless women and their children to create hospitality in a safe and nurturing environment, to encourage them to maintain dignity, to find hope, to seek opportunity, and to grow spiritually thereby achieving their full potential.
First Light accomplishes its mission by meeting the basic needs of its guests. First Light also provides services to help them regain independence. The programs of First Light Shelter include:
- Individualized case management
- Group sessions, life skills, movie and art therapies
- A variety of fun and informational activities
- Four permanent housing programs + one transitional housing program
- Most of all, a place of acceptance where guests can begin to regain dignity, hope and independence
The Pace Foundation has partnered with First Light Shelter over the last several years by providing financial contributions that support day-to-day operations. Members of the Pace Team also regularly volunteer throughout the year by providing meals and hosting activities for its guests. In 2020, our on-site involvement was limited due to COVID-19, but we did enjoy the opportunity to serve and donate meals as well as financially sponsor its virtual gala.
First Light is an organization that provides crucial support to some of Birmingham’s most vulnerable residents. The Pace Foundation is proud to be a friend to First Light and is looking forward to supporting this community in 2021.
