James Button
Class A Driver
Huntsville, AL Market
10 Months at Pace
James Button is a hard-working Class A Driver who is committed to Pace’s core values and our customers!
Each day “Buttons”, as the Huntsville team calls him, comes to the warehouse with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. His supervisor, Justin Hornbuckle, shared “I can’t count on two hands how many times he has told me he loves his job. That’s the attitude he shows EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I seriously can’t say enough good things about Buttons!” This attitude is hard to come by, but it is an essential part of the Pace culture.
James is an excellent role model when it comes to exhibiting Pace’s core values. He demonstrates his commitment to Get the Job Done and to Do What You Say by coming to work every night ready for success. As soon as he arrives, he starts helping with unloading the trucks, completing the sorts, and then running a route. He understands that his team needs him, so he goes above and beyond. During the hotter months of the year, he would become soaked (literally) from head to toe while assisting with unloading. This did not stop him from completing his duties (and doing so without complaining). Even on the toughest days, he continues to Serve Relentlessly and Do the Right Thing. James’ teammates describe him as one of the most hard-working, organized, and efficient drivers the Pace Team has ever had.
James’ team is confident in his abilities and trusts that he will do the job the right way, the first time. Recently the team in Huntsville took on new deliveries with the addition of new business in our sort and seg vertical. This was a new type of service offering across Pace locations, including the Huntsville market, requiring a more hands-on approach and more interaction with retail personnel. James’ professionalism and willingness to Always Improve by learning and applying a different skill set have been key to our success. Drivers like James are critical to Pace’s growth in this new vertical.
We are fortunate to have James as a member of the Pace Team, and we are proud to name him Pace’s Culture Warrior of the Month!
Keeping Pace sat down with James to learn more about our newest Culture Warrior of the Month.
Briefly describe your typical day at Pace.
I arrive between 2300 – 0100 and start my pre-inspection, while waiting on our first line hauls to arrive. I help unload the truck and sort and then proceed to load my freight in my truck. Once that is done, I hit the road and usually get back to the warehouse around 0800.
What’s the best thing/your favorite part about working for Pace?
Being allowed to be independent (or self-regulated) while doing my job. I’m never micromanaged and that means a lot to me.
What is one of your proudest moments/biggest accomplishments
while working at Pace?
Since being here, my favorite memory was winning an X-Box for the Safety Raffle. Not because I play video games, but because it lit my grandkids’ faces up when I gave it to them!
What do you do when you’re not working?
I spend as much time on the water as possible. I have a jet ski and a boat that I take out when I’m free. I like taking them out alone, but I LOVE taking my grandkids out.
Briefly describe your journey with Pace.
I started as a temp through Driverforce. The manager of Huntsville asked me if I’d like to work permanently for Pace, and I accepted. The rest is history!
