“Our prime purpose in this life is to help others.” – Dalai Lama
Fifteen-year Pace veteran Dewayne Glaze’s notion of great service is next level.
“Service means fulfilling the needs and expectations not only for our direct customer, but also making sure our customer’s customer is taken care of and satisfied,” Dewayne remarked.
The realization that our customer most likely has their customer who wants to be happy is an important one for our entire team. The calling to be of service to others is the driving force behind our core value, “Serve relentlessly.”
The foundation of service is the commitment in each of us to go a little further, above and beyond normal expectations, and look for a way to get positive, better results. “For me, Serve relentlessly applies to my Pace teammates and all our customers every day. It means that all our scheduled responsibilities and tasks are completed 100%.”
From his early years in Hueytown, Alabama to residences in Panama City, Fort Walton Beach, and Crestview, Florida – and now in Woodstock, Alabama Dewayne developed his penchant for serving others. Whether in retail with Bruno’s and Winn-Dixie or Books-A-Million; or as warehouse manager with Standard Furniture in Birmingham, Dewayne has enjoyed helping people.
In his time off from Pace, Dewayne volunteers picking up litter in the local Woodstock parks. From his seat as Supervisor, Central Dispatch, Dewayne has learned the importance of being receptive to change, adapting our approach for many aspects of Pace’s business. “I monitor, facilitate, and help our drivers and operations across all our deliveries for being spot on for OTS,” he said.
Dewayne recounted experiences where a customer’s distribution center mis-shipped their product to the wrong facility in our Pace network.
“Instead of holding the mis-shipped freight and returning it to the customer’s DC, we redirected it on our scheduled internal line hauls or co-mingled it with another route in our network to the correct Pace facility. This saved our customer days of time and money.” Indeed, the spirit of Serve relentlessly is alive and well!
Father to two grown stepchildren, Dewayne earned his AD in Business Management from Lawson State Community College. He enjoys driving new vehicles, cheering for Auburn University football and college sports, and finding new and interesting places to eat. Dewayne is also a history buff and enjoys traveling to historical sites. He is especially interested in Revolutionary War and Civil War battlefields. He participates in historical re-enactments and attends history seminars.
No doubt, as one who studies history, Dewayne understands that there are thousands of historical business precedents substantiating the tenant of being of service first to others as the basis of being in business. Pace and our customers (and their customers) absolutely benefit from Dewayne and all our teammates who practice every day our value to Serve relentlessly.
